Therapy

Therapy looks different for each individual depending on their age, interests and needs. Therapy starts with goal setting, identifying the outcomes you hope to achieve through OT and the best approach to help meet those needs. This may entail face-to-face sessions in your natural environment, whether that be at home, school or the community, or telehealth appointments.

I work closely with the individual, their family and those around them to support development in a range of areas including sensory processing, emotional regulation, behaviour, fine and gross motor skills, self-care, communication, toileting, sleep, feeding and mealtimes, executive functioning, play and social engagement, transitions to school, post-school options and physical management needs.

Assessments

Assessments are an essential part of the therapy process as not only do they determine if OT support is required, but also help inform strengths and areas of concern to create an individualised approach to therapy. Assessments also provide a baseline to measure progress. After an assessment, you will receive a tailored report with recommendations and next steps. Types of assessments I provide can include:

  • Initial assessments (formal or informal depending on age, concerns and diagnosis)

  • Functional Capacity Assessments (FCAs)

  • Sensory Processing Assessments

  • Review assessments, such as for NDIS

Professional Development

Learning is a key part of Occupational Therapy and I love being able to share my knowledge with others to enhance the support we provide! Parents, educators and other professionals play a key role in an individual’s life and so I understand the importance of others having the confidence to apply approaches used in therapy into everyday life. On request, I am able to offer site-based professional learning opportunities for educators, parents and other allied health professionals across a wide range of skill areas to support children’s development.
